London City Athletics Club is based at the recently refurbished Southwark Athletics Centre in Southwark Park. We are affiliated to England Athletics and are a friendly, inclusive club offering opportunities for athletes and runners of all ages and abilities. Our club colours are royal blue and canary yellow. Our club badge is an image of the nearby London icon, Tower Bridge.
In 2013 the Southwark Council Sports and Leisure Team in partnership with volunteer members of the expanding local running community got together to form a brand new athletics club.
Since our inception, London City AC senior members have been competing in the Surrey Road League during the summer and in the Start Fitness Metropolitan Cross Country League during the winter. We also regularly attend many individual races and events around these fixtures. Our junior club has been training athletes aged 8 years and upwards at a number of sites. Supported by our highly experienced and enthusiastic qualified coaches, we aim to give young athletes the chance to try a range of disciplines, and offer opportunities for competing for those who wish to take part.
In October 2016 the track at Southwark Athletics Centre re-opened with London City AC as the host club, bringing our senior and junior sections together in the same training location. We share our senior track training sessions with King’s College London AC. Together we provide coached training sessions with our world class coaching team. Training is exclusive to members of both clubs and is held every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The sessions are suitable for runners and athletes of all abilities. We will offer opportunities for our members to train and compete in the full range of track and field athletics. Currently we provide training for distance running, sprinting and throws.
We are the first and only track and field club with a dedicated juniors section in the London Borough of Southwark, with training sessions taking place in term time on Saturday mornings. We are looking to introduce our junior runners to competitive racing during 2017.
The Women’s senior team gained promotion in the Met League Cross Country 2016/17 season, and we want to build upon that success for the Men’s team and encourage the juniors to participate as well. We will remain, of course, a club for all levels and abilities. Everyone is welcome!
We are always looking at new opportunities to offer further training and running activities for members and the wider community. Many London City AC members also train with other running clubs in the area and we are keen to partner with other athletic and running organisations to encourage more people to get up, get out and get moving – all in a supportive and fun environment.
