As an England Athletics affiliated club, every year London City AC is awarded places for the London Marathon to ballot off to our members.
The number we are awarded is based on the number of First Claim members we have, as explained here. For the London Marathon 2020 the club is expected to receive 3 or 4 places to ballot (to be confirmed).
To apply for a place members must meet certain criteria based on club participation and volunteering. The criteria is reviewed annually. For the 2019 ballot the following criteria was required to enter the club ballot:
- Must have entered, and been rejected for, the London Marathon public ballot and be able to evidence this with the rejection email or letter.
- Must be an EA Affiliated first claim London City AC member by 5th November.
- Must have raced or volunteered 3 times during the calendar year for the club. Races only include all Met League, Southern Athletics League and Surrey Road League races, plus official club trips. Volunteering does NOT include taking track registration (members receive a free track session per registration).
- You cannot enter the ballot if you have received a place from the club in the previous 5 years.
The ballot draw for London Marathon places traditionally occurs at our Christmas Party.
We also receive places for the following events:
We have been allocated 10 places for the Brighton Marathon annually. They are not subject to any discount, but are made available to the club after the race has officially sold out.
The Big Half
We have received 95 ‘Community Places’ for The Big Half 2020. These are £10 each and have now been allocated to members.
